Drug trafficking plot foiled in Siliguri, five including woman arrested

Siliguri, 09th April: A drug trafficking plan in Siliguri, orchestrated using a woman as a front, was foiled by a joint operation of the SOG and Siliguri Police.

Police recovered 1 kg of crude narcotic from a suspicious four-wheeler parked near Jorepani Bridge. Five people, including a woman, were arrested. The arrested individuals have been identified as Pooja Rasaily (33), Pappu Giri (48), Azharuddin Sah (39), MD Murad Ansari (40), and MD Shamsher Alam (35). Four of the accused have prior criminal records.

Investigation revealed that the raw material was brought from Malda to produce brown sugar in Siliguri. To avoid detection, traffickers shifted to transporting raw material instead of prepared drugs.

Police sources said the accused had previously been in jail together, maintaining contacts to plan this trafficking scheme after release. Acting on secret information, authorities first detained the woman and recovered the narcotics from the vehicle’s boot.

All five have been booked under the NDPS Act and will be produced in court. Investigation into the broader trafficking network is ongoing, with police suspecting the woman’s role may be part of a larger conspiracy.
